Paying close attention to the details gives you, our valued customer, peace of mind regarding the safety of your vehicle. At Oakland Auto Works our Service Advisors work diligently to advise and educate you about your vehicle, and set expectations at every stage of the process.
- Stage 1: Intake & Listening
- Stage 2: Diagnostics & Testing
- Stage 3: Repair & Maintenance
- Stage 4: Tending to Business
- Stage 5: Follow-up
At Oakland Auto Works, listening carefully to your concerns about the health of your car is the first step in the process, . You know your car. You drive it regularly and you know when it is not doing well. We will look to you to give us your best description of what the symptoms are and how it is behaving out of the ordinary. Even if you tell us, “…it just doesn’t go as fast as it used to,” that is a great starting point and we will continue to ask questions to help us get closer to the source of the problem.
At this stage, if it has not already been determined, our Service Advisors will inquire about whether you will need a shuttle ride.
Then, before you leave your car with us, we will provide you with an approximate estimate of costs for the necessary diagnostic testing in Stage 2 below and, if possible, for the work itself, (e.g., if it is easy to identify what needs to be done, such as a brake inspection.) You will then be asked to sign your estimate.
It is important to note that the estimate for diagnostic/testing fees does not include the cost for full repairs that may be identified once the diagnostic process is complete. For example, the diagnostic fees for testing the brakes would be given at the intake stage, but the need and subsequent cost for replacement parts, or other unforeseen repairs, is something that would not be identified until after the testing is complete.
Oakland Auto Works is to your car’s health, what your physician is to your own. So, to continue the analogy, in a medical situation, when a patient identifies a symptom, even the most experienced medical doctor will go through the due diligence of diagnosing and identifying the source of the problem, employing various tests as appropriate (e.g., x-ray, blood test, etc.) to restore the patient to good health.
Similarly, Oakland Auto Works takes your investment in the long-term health of your vehicle seriously, and provides the necessary testing per manufacturer specifications for the make and model of your car.
The diagnostic equipment and systems used by OAW ensure that your car’s health problems are identified as accurately as possible. This critical part of servicing your vehicle pinpoints current issues, and may offer indications for necessary work in the future.
Following our diagnostic testing, you will receive a call from a Service Advisor regarding any initial suspicions, letting you know if there are any new discoveries about the condition and safety of your vehicle. All identified service needs will be presented to you with sound recommendations related to repair, urgency/timing, and costs.
These findings will be presented to you as:
- Necessary fixes: those presenting short-term risks
- Preventative maintenance fixes: not immediate, but eventually necessary
- You will also be informed of any observable dependencies. For example, “In terms of the condition of your car’s muffler, it may be able to hold up for another 6 months to a year, barring any unforeseen circumstances. The risks involved in waiting to replace it are..."
At this stage, it will then be up to you do decide upon and approve moving forward with a work order for the repairs identified in the diagnostics process.
OAW specializes in automotive repair for seven auto manufacturers in order to ensure that we stay current with the ever-changing technological innovations of each. Our equipment and systems are upgraded as necessary for compliance with automotive technological standards each year. Similarly, years of professional experience attained by each OAW Master Technician has included extensive training and mandatory certification; skills that stay current with additional training as the technology evolves over time. This level of up-to-date expertise benefits our customers because it translates into higher accuracy in our diagnoses, success of repairs, and ultimately fewer headaches for you and your vehicle.
Once your service is complete and you have returned to Oakland Auto Works to pick up your vehicle, a Service Advisor will carefully go over your bill and the services provided. If the inside machinery of your car is foreign to you, not to worry, as we often utilize visual guides, diagrams and illustrations depicting parts of the vehicle to help us explain procedures and how things work in layman's terms.
Approximately one week after your appointment, you will receive a follow-up call from OAW to see how you and your car are doing. The success of Oakland Auto Works relies upon our commitment to you; prioritizing customer service alongside the quality of our work.
